A warning to the gifted

Dear gifted human (that means you reader),

I learnt a lot from Dr.Myles Munroe, the ‘Apostle of purpose’. He deals with principles; godly principles….things that are eternal and relevant to any human being anywhere at any time. I believe it will be of great benefit to you and to yours if you hear and heed what he has to say.

One important thing I learnt from him is that people will become ‘attracted to you’ when you begin to ‘flow’ in your gifting. But you must know, they’re not attracted to ‘YOU’ per se as much as they are attracted to, ‘that which you produce of value which they perceive may be of potential benefit to them’.

Therefore be very wary of the crowds with their applause and their compliments and their praises. Do not put your trust, nor hope, nor confidence, and especially not your self-worth, in them. Do not abandon those which have supported you from a lil pickney on the scene of life, actually and figuratively, who may not be as pleasant in appearance and characteristics, for these shiny, new, pretty-pretty, mighty and influential even, people who suddenly pop up around you.

This is because the people who are attracted to you FOR your giftings may not really care about YOU. They do not truly care for your well-being as much as they care how best to raid that which you have to offer. They can turn against you in as fast a time as they became attracted to you. They will use the same mouth that they complimented you with to criticize and condemn you and they will use the same hands that they gave applause with to throw stones at you. Jesus knew this well( John 2:24-25)

Yet remember, ‘People doh pelt dong mango tree weh eh have no mango!’
The same fruit which attracts the admirers will also attract the haters.

I am not suggesting the assumption of an unecessarily critical, cynical outlook on everyone you now meet going forward. No. Your gift will also connect you to righteous and genuine and good people. Look out for those. But at the same time, be wise.

Steward your gifting well for the glory of God and the good of people, but don’t get carried away. History is filled with examples of those who have shipwrecked their lives and suffered much unnecessary pains by making this flaw.

Bless up.
Your friendly neighborhood Daniel.
